Myrio Unveils New IP Video Platform for Broadband Service Providers

Version 3.2 Improves Cost Efficiency, Ease of Use, System Management

Bothell, Wash. - Myrio Corporation, a leading provider of IP video software and services, today announced the commercial availability of Version 3.2 of the Myrio IP Video Platform. The latest release of Myrio’s IP video platform enables broadband service providers to increase operational efficiencies when deploying IP-based video and interactive services. In addition, the new version is easier for operators to use, adapts to their unique markets, and improves system management.

Amino Communications’ AmiNET110 is the first STB certified for deployment with the new release utilizing the recently launched Myrio Interactive Development Kit (iDK), which gives broadband service providers additional choice in STB vendors.

The release of Version 3.2 improves upon both of Myrio’s highly successful core products, TotalManageTM, the back-office subscriber and content-management application, and Myrio InteractiveTM, the full-featured end-user application. TotalManageTM equips broadband service providers with tools that facilitate greater choice in hardware, allowing service providers to streamline operations and system management and, ultimately, lower the total cost of operations. By equipping consumers with a more intuitive user interface and more robust STBs, Myrio Interactive provides greater choice, convenience and control within the digital home.

“We continue to improve our products and services by working closely with our customers and partners,” said Chris Coles, president and CEO of Myrio. “Broadband service providers and IP video vendors have been key in driving enhancements to TotalManage and Myrio Interactive. The enhancements in this release were designed to address specific revenue-generating and operational cost-saving needs, with a focus on providing the end user a more personalized experience with heightened levels of convenience, control and ease of use.”

Myrio Interactive
Myrio Interactive is a market-proven, end-user software application for set-top boxes. Myrio Interactive is enhanced with new features including:

  • Remote access through a secure connection to the Myrio Interactive client gives service providers an easy way to manage set-top box settings, performance and boot capability;
  • Enhanced Interactive Program Guide (IPG) that includes color-coding of the program genres to provide a quick visual cue to the type of programming being displayed;
  • Enhanced Parental Controls that allow further customization of the IPG, including the ability to completely remove any channel from the IPG, so parents can prevent channel or program guide information from ever being seen on the screen.

Myrio Interactive follows Myrio’s launch of the iDK Program that facilitates the integration of Myrio’s popular IP video platform with set-top boxes and consumer electronics devices. While the latest release of the Myrio IP Video Platform focuses on lowering the cost of operations for broadband service providers, the iDK Program provides the tools and documentation necessary for device manufacturers to support a robust, industry-standard, IP video software platform. With the availability of the iDK, set-top box vendors benefit from the ability to rapidly integrate with Myrio Interactive and a powerful application development platform. Operators benefit from increased STB choice and a more consistent end-user experience across a variety of devices.

“We have been greatly impressed by the flexibility and capability of Myrio Interactive,” said Mike Greenall, vice president and general manager of the products group at Amino Communications. “Integration with the Myrio IP Video Platform further strengthens our ability to offer customers the choice and features they require when selecting a solution for IPTV.”

Amino Communications is the first set-top box vendor to take full advantage of the Myrio Interactive Developer Kit, providing instant compatibility to the Myrio IP Video Platform. The Amino AmiNET110 is Java compliant, which provides the ideal platform for an emerging class of interactive services and applications. Additionally, the new set-top box supports a single MPEG-2 video stream and offers a choice between Myrio’s custom remote control and Amino’s remote control.

Myrio TotalManage
Myrio TotalManage is the back-office application that is a turnkey solution providing broadband service providers all the control they need to make IP video work. TotalManage reduces the total cost of ownership through the following feature enhancements:

  • Ability to assign products to packages directly from the product section, saving broadband service providers time from having to change modules to perform the product-package assignment;
  • Ability to view transaction-based reports, such as VOD and PPV rentals. This provides operators a quick snapshot of their service offerings;
  • More-detailed subscriber information associated with the set-top boxes, providing broadband service providers rapid response when troubleshooting or inquiring about a particular set-top box;
  • Support for multiple makes of VOD servers in the same network enabling service providers to offer different content on different servers from different manufacturers, all managed from a single platform—TotalManage.

“The partnership between Myrio and Entone has set out to enable the business case for the telco triple play of voice, data and video,” said Mark Evensen, vice president of product development at Entone. “Our StreamLiner video server is integrated with the Myrio solution, and allows us to jointly offer an end-to-end solution, including our Hydra residential Gateway, that improves the business case for telco video service while reducing the integration and deployment risk.”

TotalManage further enables cost savings by allowing broadband service providers to pick and choose the video services they want to deploy, as well as providing more powerful system management tools. Version 3.2 offers the following enhancements:

  • Ability to define and create multiple network locations for VOD servers, allowing service providers to deploy multiple VOD servers for redundancy, load balancing and bandwidth management;
  • Ability to create unique vendor entries, allowing service providers to better track who is providing the equipment and content used in their video deployment; and
  • Ability to easily modify system and network settings such as: DHCP & DNS configurations, view system logs, and view application logs with Myrio’s new Webmin interface, providing the ability to quickly troubleshoot any issue and evaluate the performance of the system.

“We are extremely pleased working with Myrio and its IP Video Platform. This release further strengthens our partnership. It enables us to deliver cost-effective, world-class, on-demand solutions using MidStream's video servers and storage solutions and Myrio's middleware platform,” said Ed Huguez, president and CEO of MidStream Technologies, Inc.
